SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Sustaining Engineer shall be responsible for the development of Failure Analysis Reports for equipment and/or material returned for evaluation and repair. The Sustaining Engineer shall provide design maintenance of products that have been released to Manufacturing for ongoing production and/or production of spares. This shall include providing support to Sr. Sustaining Engineers during customization of that product for specific and internal and customer driven requirements. It shall also encompass support responsibility for Value Engineering, Technology Insertion and all aspects for sustaining fielded equipment. Design maintenance of released products includes support for production problems, field problems, maintenance of regulatory compliance and customer-driven customization.
The Sustaining Engineer shall support the Sr. Sustaining Engineers during coordination and prioritization of major cross-functional issues to technically support ongoing program needs. The Sustaining Engineer shall provide support to Sr. Sustaining Engineers and Reliability Engineers during establishment of department technical policies in regard to fielded product surveillance, depot technical operations hardware and/or software development and sustaining tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Develops Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) for equipment and/or material returned for evaluation and repair.
2. Maintains FAR databases, prepares inter-departmental correspondence regarding returned product failures.
3. Identifies / monitors failure trends, and provides an over all summary and findings for equipment and/or material returned for evaluation and repair to the Failure Review Board (FRB).
4. Participates and presents to the Failure Review Board (FRB) product failure analysis, failure trends, provides an over all summary and findings to support the implementation of corrective action.
5. Establishes appropriate links with Engineers, Reliability Engineers, Field Service, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality personnel to monitor production and deployed equipment processes, and identify and help prioritize the problems that develop in the course of programs.
6. Responds in a timely manner to provide assistance to Sr. Sustaining Engineers in determining design and/or process related causes and assist with changes as required.
7. Monitors failure data generated in-house and by the customer to ascertain potential requirements for product improvements in future designs and provide written recommendations.
8. Develops Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and company policies for Sustaining Engineering project related programs.
9. Participates in Value Engineering Teams (VET) for both newly-released and fielded products to help identify and prioritize design changes for product enhancement.
10. Performs hardware and/or software design and development of Depot and Field Test Equipment.
11. Responsible for ongoing Maintenance and Certification of Navy Depot Test Stations and Validation of Navy Depot Repair Standards.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. 5 years experience in Aerospace, Military, Defense and Space programs, and BSEE.
2. Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BSEE) from four-year College or university and 5 years related experience.
